On Monday, October 31, 2011, the Otaku Anime Society celebrated Halloween their unique way. Costumes filled the room with color and good spirits. AMV's, or anime music videos, flooded the spacious room with music, while clips from various anime shows harmoniously played in tune.

Chris Thomas, senior computer science major stated the party was "a chance for us to show what we are all about. It shows anyone who is new to the club that school is not just about going to class then going home." Thomas is president of OAS, which was appropriate, as his costume was a valiant knight.

"We like to dress up in costumes throughout the year and Halloween allows us to dress up. This party allows us to celebrate Halloween, which is everyone's favorite holiday," says treasurer Catherine Camacho, whom dressed as a Renaissance era woman. Camacho, a junior biology and psychology double major, then spoke of the future plans for OAS, which includes a masquerade balls for Valentine's Day.

Dressed in black and green robes, Janete da Rocha, a senior math education major, decided to be a Slytherian for Halloween. "I am a huge Harry Potter nerd. I made this costume for a Harry Potter convention." As for being in the Slytherian house, da Rocha feels right at home. "I definitely identify with Slytherian. I'm ambitious," she says with a laugh.

Junior, education major, Jisu Jung decided to dress up as Shizune from Naruto. Jung wanted to be a ninja, and since Shizune is a medical ninja -- it was the perfect match. Amongst a sea of orange, yellow, and red was Brian Alexander, senior child psychology major. As Skull Kids from the video game, the Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Alexander proudly represented his favorite character. As in regards to the party, he states, "everyone gets together and expresses themselves while having fun."

Erin Matthaey, a senior biology major, believes that OAS is a positive atmosphere. "We are actually all friends. Sometimes we are a support group. Other times, we are pure entertainment."The Otaku Anime society meets Mondays from 3:15 p.m. to 4:30 p.m in the Jack and Maxine Lane Center for Academic Success, room 452.
