The fifth annual "Nihon Matsuri: Japan Festival in Salt Lake City" takes place April 24, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and will feature a special anime-cosplay showcase. Organized by the Nihon Matsuri Committee, made up of Utah's people of Japanese ancestry, the festival will also include a kimono fashion show and a performance by the Japanese Church of Christ Kenshin Taiko Group.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held on Japantown Street along 100 South between 200 West and 300 West in Salt Lake City. Aimed at exploring multiple facets of Japanese culture, the festival will line the streets with food, booths, art and exhibits.
"We're excited about the appreciation and interest Utahns have shown in our culture and our traditions over the years," festival chairman Marion Hori said in a news release. "It's a true delight, the chance to share our community's history, talents and heritage with the people of Utah."
